ACPI 2.0.0

eComStation supports modern multiprocessor systems now
(equipped with SMP, DualCore and HyperThreading CPUs).

The purpose of the ACPI driver is provide ACPI interface to applied
developers.
ACPI project consists of:
* ACPI-CA driver
* Toolkit for developers of drivers and applications

Whatsnew:
* Fresh Intel code
* SMP support added

ACPI driver is a product of Netlabs.

Hello Eugene,

thanks for the announcement and for the Warpstock 2005 Dresden handout
from your presentation ( for the non attendants).

The handout has been read!

ACPI ToDo:
  - Complete SMP support
  - APM functionality (suspend/resume)
  - Control of IRQs
  - SMBus (IBM notebooks)
  - Utilities

At what project/ driver status does it make sense to do testing with
ThinkPad s to support the developer?

I had the feeling
the test of 1.16 was a waste of my time
and
a waste of the developer too, if I send an test-report.

kind regards

Perhaps this is a dumb question but does this mean if I have an AMD Dual
core CPU, do I still need to purchase SMP to take advantage of the
multiprocessor system? Also, roughly what kind of performance gain
could I expect 5% 10%, 100%?

Thanks,

To use DualCore on OS/2 platform you should own SMP license. eCS users can
buy it for minimal price:

I don't have comparison tables. You should read articles with overview of
the CPU.
1) Intel talks that HyperThreading (fake SMP) gives 10%-20%, 30% increase
2) Some eCS users tell that SMP gives >100% increase of performance,
althouth it's clear that the increase can't exceed 100%
3) This depends on applications which you are using. Multithread
applications work quicker. Many applications work quicker.
4) All users confirm that SMP makes computer work smooth

Hello Rainer Stroebel

1) In the start of the ACPI project (2002, Warpstock Europe 2002) we had
100 questions. Today we have 200 answers and new 1000 questions. The
reports from testers is the description of environment very important for
developers of ACPI drivers and tools. We look at configuration and
properties of computers and make long-term decisions. All reports are
saved to one database. Developers discuss logs every day. Don't worry if
you don't get response. We are not building pyramid of e-mails (answering
to every email). Only using logs as food for the thought. Press developers
in the forums of beta-zone to fix urgent bugs.

2) You can test every update of ACPI driver on your notebook. You will
feel profit (and can join deep testing) when "SMBus" and
"APM" will be
pushed out for testing.
