| SMP on AMD64x2 -- no joy so far |
 |

I know others have been successful, but so far I've had no luck getting
SMP working on my system.
I have a brand new install of 1.2 refresh on my system which comprises the
AMD64x2 3800+ processor, Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI
(http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Motherboard/Products/Products_GA-K8N%20Pro-SLI.htm)
,
2G RAM, 74G WD SATA disk, and eVGA nVidia 6600 graphic card
(http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=256-P2-N363-TX).
I'm using the GenMac wrapper 1.0 to provide a LAN driver for the nForce4
NIC. I have no sound card driver installed. I installed the latest SNAP
ENT driver from the BetaZone. It does not provide acceleration, however,
as it doesn't detect the nVidia chipset on my eVGA card. I have a USB
keyboard and mouse.
When I install SMP and start up, I get as far as the desktop -- it paints
the background color and draws the cursor hourglass and freezes. No trap
or fault information at all. If I rem out the OS2APIC driver it boots and
runs on one core. If I install ACPI 2.0 driver and enable /SMP it freezes
just after it displays the Genmac driver splash screen during boot up.
Again, no errors.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty much dead in the water here, multi-processor
wise.

Hello Joe Barnhart
ACPI.PSD:
1) please, post report to beta-zone
2) use the latest USB drivers
=========================
'''Drivers not ready for SMP (ACPI)'''
This drivers do not work in SMP computers (running with ACPI.PSD):
* AMouse -- there is a special parameter for SMP(?)
* SHOWIRQ.SYS is not compatible with APIC (6144, 04.03.00) error before
load of PMSHELL.
'''This drivers may be improved'''
* UniAud -- doesn't work on SMP machines but may be improved;
* Scitech SNAP -- usually works but there are restrictions;
Contact the developers and make them fix the drivers.
'''Working drivers'''
* Driver e100b for Intel 10/100 network card
* System USB drivers v.10.145 or above
* RTSND.OS2, Veit's Realtek network driver, released in december 2005 or
later -- http://kannegieser.net/veit/realtek8139.htm
* MRAID.SYS v2e.03 (MegaRAID 475 Express 500 RAID works on IRQ 18), use
parameter /IRQ 18.
* IBMGU.OS2 network driver for Intel PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter 82545EM
Gigabit Ethernet (Copper), for example, IRQ 21

How about a memory address problem? That's usually what trap 0d's are
all about. I suggest you reset your bios and see if it will reassign the

Thanks for the response. In keeping with this being a general forum, let
me try to get OS2APIC working. Here is the result when I use this driver
on my system:

I get a "trap 0d" error.
I have reloaded the VGA drivers and double-checked everything in your list
of suggestions. The GenMac wrapper is still an open question, but there
is no other driver for my nForce4 NIC. I can try to uninstall this driver
and go back to the nullndis driver.
If anyone knows how to read a trap 0d, I'm interested in what this one
says about my system.

That's an interesting idea. But remember, I can boot and run eCS
perfectly well without SMP support enabled. Does it make sense that the
IRQs would be toxic under SMP but not under normal operation? (Sorry if
this is a dumb question but I'm a bit new at this OS/2 SMP stuff.)
The bios on this board does not give me many options to affect IRQs. It
has a setting to manually set IRQs for two PCI slots and that's about it.
I will look at the Gigabyte site to see if there have been any updates for
this relatively new board.
