vmware

I have the opportunity to demo a java business application (Compiere, open
source)

The vendor prefers to deliver it pre-configured as a vmware "image".
He actually
prefers to put it on a windows box, or linux if he has to.

1. do we have a current vmware host for OS/2

2. does using vmware on the host mean I need vmware on the client, or should
java be sufficient?

I mentioned that the vmware added a layer that might slow down the app, but he
said there is very little impact, and using vmware makes it very easy for him to

deliver this software to his clients.

Thankfully, he is able to use java 142

Back to Plan A I guess: Linux server running java, with or without vmware.

Thanks for the input gents.

Nope! Only windows and linux

?? You use vmware on the host to virtualise a client. Within vmware it
can be dos/windows/unix/linux but not os2/ecs.
So you install vmware and then you can install a client within vmware.
The client does not know about the host and thinks it's alone. It is
very handy because one can use this client to test new apps, different
osses without interfering the host os.

I think he is right about that. I use vmware quit some time now and did
not find any delay's. The bottleneck is the amout of physical memory
that is left for the host.

and using vmware makes it very

Can be. If he makes a app in linux, he can than make a iso of linux and
his app and distribute this. The party which is going to use his app
only needs vmplayer to start the vm.

I think you need the vendor to supply a java app - or develop and supply
vmware for os/2 as well.

New thoughts...
my vendor seems to think that a vmware image could be run on another virtual
machine (i.e. SVISTA) Apparently he used another program (other than vmware) to

create the image. Is this possible?

If I can't simply use his image, I can still manually install Linux, java,
compiere and oracle in a vm.

It would be nice if I could run this business app from a vm under OS/2. I would

appreciate input from the group.
