I had a similar experience the first time I tried WPSWizard. I ended up
un-installing it and XWP, then scrubbed my INI files with cleanini and
checkini multiple times, then re-installed first WPSWizard, then XWP and
everything has been fine since (don't know if the order matters or not...).

I have to say I don't think I could ever go back to old icons....

Hi Pete

I hate to hear it does not work for you. If my system did like yours, I
would never have been able to create my first icon theme. Since I
manually edit the theme's ini file when I create each theme, I restart
my desktop many times without any system problems. One thing I have
noticed is that the WPS can only be restarted so many times before the
system hangs. It is in the neighborhood of 8 to 10 times.

What I can't figure out is why you lose your sound. If I understood
Chris correctly, WPS adds an entry to the OS/2 ini which points to the
locations of the WPSWizard theme ini file. Thus another way to made the
system default to the systems itheme is to move the present theme to a
different location. Once moved, the pointer can't find the theme ini
file and defaults to the itheme icon theme installed.

I tried moving the WPS Wizard directory to my programs folder. One of
my programs kept starting. What I found was that the moved program
object must have plenty of white space to move it too. Once I expanded
the window and gave the moved object plenty of white space to move it
to, it moved without a problem and the system continued to operate as it
should.

There must be something about your system WPS Wizard does not like. I
have it working on eCS 2 RC2 on one partition and eCS 2 RC4 on another.

Hi Dave

Have you had a chance to try all the themes? What are your favorites.
I like the dark-glass lime on one partition and use the new snowish kde
brown theme on another. But if the truth be told, I like them all. If
I get tired of the same old theme, I switch to another. And yes, I
agree with you. There is no going back for me to using the old ithemes,
even with the nice one I created not too long ago. I think what is
good, people now have many options on how they want to set up their
desktops.

WPSWizard, an icon theme and problems
Mon, 28 Jan 2008 16:16:28 +000
Hi All

Following a suggestion elsewhere in these ngs I installed the later
cairo 1.4.14 package.

With the WPSWizard V0.6.0 unzipped I updated wpswizz.dll and wpswizz.sym
with the 6.1.a1 files and then ran the install.cmd

Part1 of the install ended with a WPS reset then Part2 ran without any
error messages. The Properties notebook for createfd.cmd appeared
onscreen for whatever reason though...

Desktop text stayed the colour I had set it (Red) - Until after the
reboot when it turned Black.

I opened the WPSWizard Desktop folder and several folders within that
folder. The system locked and required using WatchCat to force a reboot.

Having rebooted I find that the system has minor bouts of "pausing";
it
seems like it has locked but after about 10 to 20 seconds comes back to
life. This "pausing" is very infrequent with no obvious cause at the
moment - did not happen before installing WPSWizard though.

I used the Desktop Properties to change the text colour back (from
Black) to Red - of interest here is that when WPSWzard reset the Desktop
text colour to Black that setting was not reflected in the Desktop
Properties notebook which still showed Red! It was necessary to change
from Red to another colour and then reset to Red before the Black
Desktop text would go away.

As I am only just starting to investigate the capabilities of this
package I have to ask a question about the Command lines context menu
option:
Why is it that the menu offers Command lines when using RMB on a folder,
on the Desktop and on the Drives (folder) object but not when on a drive
object? - I think that is a bad omission. Any chance of changing that in
a later version?

I just tried to Move the WPSWizard folder from the Desktop to a
subfolder Desktop\Programs\Installed Software and the system issued an
error message "SYS0251: The move or rename operation is not allowed."
I
guess the folder location is hardcoded to the Desktop?

After about 2 hours of using the system with WPSWizard installed and
only 1 obvious "pause" I decided to install a theme. I downloaded
wps-wizard-icons-darkglass-skyblue-v1_3 and unzipped to
\wpswizard\dark-glass-skyblue directory and ran the set-icon-theme.cmd
script. After a WPS reset the scheme was active and looked good.

Sadly, installing an icon theme seems to have upset something because
when I opened the WPSWizard directory the system did a WPS reset and
lost sound.

I rebooted and tried the above again: WPS reset and sound now missing.
Also of interest was that it now became impossible to use the system.
Any attempt to open a folder or run an app resulted in an error about
not enough memory - on a system with 1 GB RAM. Maybe this is a Resource
error rather than a lack of memory?

Ok, time to sack the theme; Easier said than done!

I ran the uninstall-icon-theme.cmd in the WPSWizard directory and
followed that with a reboot.

When the Desktop should have appeared I got the dreaded message that
goes something like this: "Could not find the Desktop in the User ini
file".

Yes, I did have current backups of both ini files.

No, I will not be reinstalling the current WPSWizard. There is obviously
something not quite right with that software when installed on my system.

Regards

Pete

I have been switching around a lot.... but of the ones you created I like
the snowish-brown and the darkglass-flataqua the best. I tend to like more
pastel shades over more 'neon' ones. I still think my favorite is the
Noia-warm though. Would be nice if it were updated with all of the icons your
sets provide....

Thanks for all you have done with the icon sets... you make it seem too
easy. I've tried creating some icons myself but it becomes very laborious for
me - guess I just don't have the knack for it.....
