Mplayer on RC4

Mplayer on RC4
Wed, 13 Feb 2008 16:26:15 -080
I have been using the following command file to play video including
*.VOB files since eCS 1.2R up to and including RC2: "
e:
cd \video\mplayer
SET SDL_USE_TIMECRITICAL_AUDIO=1
e:\video\mplayer\mplayer.exe -idle -x 1024 -y 768 %1
"
It fails on RC4. Conducting some experiments, I found that using the
following test line, (all one one line)
"
e:\video\mplayer\mplayer.exe -idle -x 1024 -y 768 S:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.vob

"
executed on the command line from anywhere on my system I tried worked
fine /except/ from e:\video\mplayer. When executed from there it failed
with the message "Unable to open SDDHELP$ helper device driver!".
Note
it will work even from e:\video. I have searched my entire system for a
file called SDD*.*. I found two but neither had name SDDHELP$ .

Any ideas? Is this a bug?

System is a T-Pad T60 using the kernel recommended by the installer.

do you use Panorama VESA driver?

then you need special build of SDL ready for Panorama VESA

SDL ready for Panorama VESA (multi-platform graphics library)
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/sdl/sdl-1.2.10-bin-20070618.zip

other versions: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/sdl

Yes. Also used the alternate kernel as recommended by the installer.

OK. Downloaded. I'll read instructions for installation.

What does SDL stand for?

I only see one CPU usage indicator although duo is turned on in BIOS.

Thanks.

No idea on the mplayer problem but SDDHELP$ probably exists in the \DEV
directory - which you may also not be aware of.

Files with the $ suffix are created at boot I think - along with the
\DEV directory.

OEMHLP$ is created/loaded by the os2ldr at boot and is related to
hardware data. I do not know what SDDHELP$ is; something to do with
video card data at a guess.

Maybe someone else can supply more detail about these files...

[H:\]dir SDDHELP$

The volume label in drive H is ecs1.2r.
The Volume Serial Number is 3C0E:D5BF.

Directory of \DEV

  1-01-80 12:00a 0 0 ---- SDDHELP$.
         1 file(s) 0 bytes used

[H:\]DIR OEMHLP$

The volume label in drive H is ecs1.2r.
The Volume Serial Number is 3C0E:D5BF.

Directory of \DEV

  1-01-80 12:00a 0 0 ---- OEMHLP$

Add the following line to your startup script for Mplayer:
SET SDL_DISABLE_FSLIB=1

A newer version, which is faster for Panorama is here:
ftp://www.ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/sdl-1.2.10-bin-20080121.zip

You onlu need the SDL12.DLL in the package.
