eCS 2.0 RCx desktop lockups

eCS 2.0 RCx desktop lockups
Mon, 12 Nov 2007 22:06:12 GMT
Last night, I experienced a number of desktop lockups, with eCS 2.0
RC3. When I tried to figure that out, I discovered that all RCx
versions come with the older Innotek Fontlib support installed. That
WILL cause desktop lockups, and other assorted weird symptoms. I have
not had the problem, since updating to:

(but it has only been a few hours of use since I updated).

I suggest that the eCS 2.0 team get the update into the distribution,
and that any users should do the update, ASAP, to avoid problems.

Hope this helps...

I seem to recall this being discussed from way back - possibly eCS1.2

I think the result was that a beta would not be included in eCS - I
think there was talk about getting it to GA and then including it. Looks
like it has not got there...

In the past I haven't noticed such failures on my older machine. Sense
I have a new AMD quad core its grossly apparent. Drags are my biggest
problem and (for me) RC3 is barely usable. I'll try the FT Lib update
just for giggles. My system cant get worse.

After some more playing around I found that using the Uniprocessor
kernel, and ACPI.psd /PIC brings the stability. There must be a problem
with the SMP kernel and AMD CPU's. Desktop does not freeze and I can
drag folders again. Now on to my next issue which I think I'll post in
the appropriate group.

Than you all for your suggestions.

Replacing the UNIAUDxx.sys files by the ones from eCS RC1 fixed the
problem for me. My mobo has nVidia HD Audio, which is officially
unsupported but does work with UniAud 1.1.4RC2. UniAud 1.1.4RC3 is a
step back for me, and the new HDA-compatible version is for Intel HDA only.
