Hi All.
I sent this earlier, but it may not have made it. Here is a re-send. If
the original turns up, please accept my apologies. NICK
---------------
A really big "Thank You" to the crowd at Mensys. I was averaging about
60kb/sec, instead of the usual 9kb/sec when I download. I had it within
the hour, which, considering the ridiculously high temperatures we've
been having here in Perth, an absolute godsend.
Only problem was, and it seems that it only happens with Mensys, is that
the download refused to "cut off" or save itself to the hard disk. As
a
workaround, after checking that the file size was as near as damnit, I
copied and renamed the file to another part of my hard disk. That seems
to have worked....after 2 defective CD's, the 3rd one was good, and used
this one for the install.
The first install went to a spare partition on my Desktop PC. That is
an Atholon 3500, Asus M2n_TVM motherboard, 1GiB RAM, 160GiB Samsung HDD,
of which the installable partition was 15GiB. This installation went
swimmingly...really well. ACPI seems to run well, it will turn off the
Desktop, no problems.
The second install went to my Notebook. It is an IBM Thinkpad R40, model
No. 2722-EM1. The HDD is only 25GiB, but I was able to use the Partiton
Manager to pile-drive the Windows/IBM partiton to only 12GiB, and use
the balance (i5Gib) for eCs and BM.
And this time I got brave, and installed ACPI. First off, the notebook
shuts down really quickly, which is better than when I was using APM.
However, Suspend and Resume do not seem to work at all. I have ensured
that Suspend and Resume are Enabled in the BIOS, but after leaving the
computer running for 30minutes on AC, untouched, the eCs screensaver was
still there, and no "crescent moon" light showing the Suspend was
working.
If I lower the lid, and raise it again, I get a blank screen, with, it
appears, no way to get the OS back. Pressing the Power button only cold
boots the lappie, which is not a lot of use to me.
At this time, with consecutive hot days coming our way, I am only
running the machines for a small time, so I haven't tested everything
that I should have.
Now, a very small defect to be looked at. After installation of the main
OS, if I install Sundial's DBExpert, and look at the table "Orders"
under the database "Sample", the dates are in YYYY/MM/DD order. The
workaround for this is to go to System Setup > Locale, and re-press
"Mark As Default" in both the Locale drop menu, and the RH Click menu.
That turns the date back to DD/MM/YY, which is right for us Aussies. Is
this an OS bug, or a bug within DBExpert? I have included it here, as
the workaround seems to be with the OS. It might be worth looking at.
Haven't transferred all my "stuff' in yet, but will keep you posted if
anything new comes up.
Regards
NICK

Please report this to the bugtracker. It seems a lot of Broadcom devices
does not get detected correct - and only way to get this fixed is to report
it, so they get the datebase for this updated.

My guess is, that currently you are out of luck for that.
UNIAUD might later get to a stable point, where you can use it.
