| ECS2.0 rc4 no real problems so far |

All,
Feedback forms appear to be broken at on ECS/Mensys sites so will report
here
I have installed RC4 to a clean partition and so far no real issues.
Machine is ACER ASPIRE 9300-5317
AMD Turion 64 x2
1 gb shared memory
Chipset NVIDIA
video chipset NVidia geoforce go 6300
SMP kernel
ACPI and APM installed ACPI settings to be refined
Network interfaces
Atheros 500 g wireless driver genmac atheros ar5005g (168c:001a)
Nvidia mcp51 network interface driver NVidia mac driver from NickK
(10de:0269)
Setup as per Doug Bisset's advice for 2 network interfaces with the
addition of netbios for os2 to allow other workstations to show in network
browser.(from Genmac-user news group)
No issues with drop out of data in file transfers so far.
Sound does not work yet but from RC3 install UNIAUDIO for this machine may
need to use a back leveled version.
USB Resources does not recognise items plugged into ports, chipset
compatabity issue I suspect. Mouse plugged in works but not shown as
resource.
Setup was painless and once options set no added input was required. time
to install was 15 minutes approx.
Panorama VESA used for video with the vain hope that the wide screen
settings will work, ok so far but monitor inf's and settings are yet to be
played with.
Apart from issues above I have no problems and I thank all at Serenity,
Netlabs, Genmac group, Mensys and those unmentioned but dedicated
developrs of programs for we users and for their dedication and foresight
to keep OS2/ECS active.
Looking forward to GA release.
Regards Peter Brede

Run USBcfg and check your USB configuration. If it is not supplied with
rc4it is available here http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/usbcfgb7a.zip

Hi Pete
USBcfg did some nasty things to config.sys when I used it to change
settings, the order was changed and all the device related usb entries
were put at the end of the config and usbresmg.sys woud not load ulesss it
was above the basedev entries.
Enabling /i13 switch locked up boot at basedev=os2lvm.dmd
All the usb system hardware components show up in usbcfg and if you run
?:\ecs\bin\usb.cmd and pci.exe
According to PCI.EXE the chipset is NVIDIA mcp51 which is pci-express (PCI
ID's are 10de:026e ehci and 10de:026d ohci)
Everything is there except the ability for the USB software and utilities
to interact with the hardware at the system levels, that a usb mouse works
is somewhat of a quandary.
Thanks for your input and I was looking for usbcfg as a next step in
looking for the issues highlighted above.

If discussing USB entries USBcfg writes them in order - to my knowledge.
and all the device related usb entries

Currently looking into "in place editing" of existing lines - new USB
lines would still get added to the end of the file though...

I suspect something else wrong with your system as no-one else has
reported a problem with the position of usbresmg.sys in the config.sys
file after making changes with USBcfg.

Do you need that switch? - are you booting from USB Floppy drive?

Check the mainboard BIOS USB settings, Disable anything that says
"Legacy" - that set Enabled would make your mouse work and could cause
problems for USB drivers - and make sure that USB1 and 2 support is Enabled.
Reards

Hi Pete (getting confusing now)

Yes buts shifts them to the last entries in config

USB

That would help a lot as in the fresh install all the entries are in the
right places.

Lots of conjecture here but BASEDEV loads first after IFS and then DEVICE
entries, according to memory of other NG posts.
Devices are listed first then basedevs, kernel says what order to load.
USBRESMG.sys is device and loads after basedevs

Just tried it as thought there might be something to it.
Didn't work so advised and is filed in useless info pigeon hole.

Gunna love this.
ACER and Phoenix in their infinite wisdom have only allowed the user to
set time and date, passwords and boot sequence priority.
No other BIOS settings are available to the user even in window$
BIOS upgrade kills acpi and back level had to achieved.
Next step is to swap whole machine with some one who has a motion that
will be ECS compliant, bummer as this is an excellent physical
configuration.
