usb question

usb question
Tue, 05 Feb 2008 09:26:09 -050
I am attempting to install the latest beta on this machine:
Intel Celeron D 2.66 ghz
1GB of RAM
usb mouse
ps2 keyboard

1st phase of install was perfect: formated jfs; discovered sound card, nic,
etc.

During reboot, I get a hang while usb driver is loading. Sorry, I didn't write
down the specific driver.

Answering my own post...
For the heck of it I rebooted a couple more times,
next boot hang was on os2lvm.dmd
next hang was on os2dasd.dmd
next boot went all the way
WTF??
Then phase 2 completed perfectly
At this point, the machine is hanging at the boot logo, trying to complete phase
3

At this point I could boot to command line and play with config.sys, so I'll try

that.

New stuff...
I was getting a BIOS error during boot. Since I was given the opportunity to
press F1 to continue, I simply continued (after all I'm a busy man)
I decided to go into the bios to see what the fuss was about:
I found CPU temp in RED text: 80.5 C, 176..5 F
Is that high?

Other hdwr items were in black text (normal)
MB temp 26 C, 78.5 F
CPU fan speed 2721 RPM

I do not have access to this beta but have seen several posts about
installation problems that seem to revolve around ACPI.

Is it possible to check and modify the config.sys during the install? -
I seem to recall that option when I last did an eCS install, probably
set it for the end of Phase1. You could then REM the ACPI driver (or
anything else you think may be causing problems) and see what happens.

Very possibly... Red text can be a warning - as in " in the red" - on

some BIOSs. I suggest a hunt for specs on the Intel website to check.

I suggest opening the case and checking for what I have seen described
as "dust bunnies" - especially in the cpu cooler block fins and fan
but
it does not hurt to have a good dust of all fans and remove all dust
build up from mainboard and the inside of the case. Carefully!

Do not suck pin jumpers or mainboard components into a vacuum cleaner as
that will definitely cause problems.
