Hello all:
Recently I get a trap 000e message when my T40 thinkpad boots:

That is strange, because I could install two instances of eCS2.0rc3 (on
partitions D: and G:, along with Windows XP Pro installation on C:) with
no difficulties. Over the span of a week or so, I turned both eCS
installation on and off repeatedly and all worked well, except the
wireless connection would not work. Recently I learned how to make the
wireless (Intel 2100) work by simply "saving" the MPTS configuration -
there was no change other than a few extra clicks with the left mouse
button and a reboot. Now I am in deep waters: I can boot once after
activating the wireless in this way - but not a second or third time
which in every further boot traps with 000e. This is reproducible with
both installations on D: and G: - I did re-install eCS2.0rc3 at least
four or five times, always with exactly the same results: Trap 000e.
What is going on ?

One more weird thing: If after a trap 000e I keep turned off the 'puter
for a few hours, it boots again fully (i.e., without a trap 000e) once
or twice, before it refuses to boot (and traps). Apparently, something
is heating up inside, and as long as it is cool enough, I see no problem
with booting. However, once a certain temperature is reached, the trap
occurs on booting and the 'puter will not reboot. Does someone have an
idea what I could try?

I should think the first thing to do would be to make sure that
all the coolers/fans are working properly and that you have a
sufficient number of them for the number of hardware devices you
have installed.
I have three HDDs and a DVDRW drive. The 200GB HDD has a two-fan
cooler on it, plus I have three case fans and a CPU cooler. If
any one of these gets clogged up or stops working, I get heat
problems and eventually boot problems.

Only one fan on a Thinkpad... The fan on mine (T42p) has died twice,
but the bios caught it and stopped the system with an error message. I
would at least blow it out with some canned air.

Many thanks, Tom and Dale. I, too, have come to the conclusion that
overheating must be the problem. I turned off the radio when it is not
used, and am thinking about turning off other drivers which are rarely
(or never) used. The fan blows, but blowing it out is a good idea.
