| Undeletable file on JFS - any ideas |

(Not sure if this is the right newsgroup - excuse me if it's not)
I'm trying to delete a 5GB file from a JFS partition and can not get rid of
it. Whenever I try to delete it (WPS, FileCommander, command line), the
computer freezes, that is it doesn't take any input anymore, not even C-A-D.
Only way out is hard reset/power off. The computer comes back and the JFS
drive is so 'dirty' that not even replaying the log works - I have to go
through a real checkdisk. System comes up again, but trying to delete the
file results in another hang and cold reboot.
I booted to eCS 2.0 RC3 CD and ran a chkdsk /f from there. Finishes
'successfully', but no change to the situation with the particular file.
Does anyone have an idea what to do to get rid of this file. REformating the
drive is not an option right now, as I dont have a way to back up 300GB of
data (pictures, VCR recordings).
Cheers
Andreas

What is the file name? I ran into a problem a year or two ago where a
file name contained illegal characters inserted from the CDDB
database. I finally got rid of it by editing the JFS directory name in
hex using DFSee with a LOT of help from Jan van Wijk.
Can you move the file to a different directory? Have you tried Black
Hole (Hobbes)?

I guess that's what I have to do. It's just that I have to pay a visit to my
favorite computer store and pick up another HD with at least 300GB capacity
for backup to work as I'm running rather low on diskspace these days ;o)
Thanks

I wasn't aware that there is a Dec 10 version of FileCommander/2. Didn't
change anything though.
I ended up 'moving' the file into a directory called 'dont delete' and keep
it there until I come around buying a new HD.
Thanks for all the suggestions

Yes, no change.

No, but this only helps for undeletable WPS objects.
Thanks
