RC4 Install hangs after completion

RC4 Install hangs after completion
Thu, 20 Mar 2008 12:20:31 GMT
I installed eCS2RC4 yesterday, and it all went OK. I then configured the
screen, installed printers, etc., rebooted, and the boot stops when the
SnapGraphics Logo screen shows up.

The only thing I can imagine is that on my other installations (a beta 3
and a RC1) the screen is at 1280x1024, 60 refresh rate. On this problem
install I changed the screen size to 1280x1024 but neglected to change the
refresh rate so it is still (afaik) at 75 herz.

Advice on how to get the RC4 to boot all the way through?

TIA,
Clyde

What resolutions and Refresh rates does the screen support? - sounds
like you may have selected settings it does not like.

Presuming Boot Manager is in use:-

Select the eCS2RC4 installation and press Enter followed by Alt-F1 (at
the eCS "blob")
At the menu select to reset to vga

You will end up with a system running vga

Not sure if SNAP/Panorama will need reinstalling before you set
Resolution and Refresh to known working values.

Well, I went back and booted to that partition - this time it went through
fine. I guess the earlier halt was just one of those random glitches. But
thanks for your reply.

Hi Clide,

if it would turn out that your system hangs during boot after a power on
and works after a boot with C-A-D then you should configure SNAP to use
only AGP 4x instead of AGP 8x if you are using that. This is a well
known problem with SNAP.

Best regards
Uwe
