first virus

Today at the office (yes, Sunday) a rectangular dead area showed up on the
middle of the screen. Command windows' displays were blacked out in that
portion of the screen. Some other icons, when moved through the area,
changed also. The screen background and most programs were unaffected.
Using pspm2 I couldn't find anything unusual running. Rebooting fixed it.

Now I've come home and found the same problem on the machine here. Clamav
is only available to eCS at the 91.2 level (though 92.1 is out) but I have
it running in the background. ECS 2.0 rc4 throughout.

Is this a common glitch or is there finally an os/2 virus?

I have seen similar when a PM app goes zombie. ClamAV 92.1 is
available for ECS - I am running it.

That is a common raction if a PM application blocks, maybe in the
Exit-T1 handler. Use something like Watchcat to identify the dead
Application. This won't fix the problem, but it will help to find the
originator. You have to reboot anyway. That's PM :-(

Thanks for the info. I'd seen zombies refuse to clear off the screen
before but never this odd behavior.

As for clamav 92.1 after Dave's comment I found it at
http://web.os2power.com/yuri/ClamAV.
I guess Yuri doesn't send his work to Hobbes right away.
