When I approach most OSes, I often find purchasing some 3rd party manual
or guide is the best quick learning resource. It worked for me in Linux
and FreeBSD, so I would hope something similar can be found for eCS. Can
anyone recommend a good book on getting up to speed on OS/2-eCS?

Maybe the Desktop Guide will help a little.
That guide is in Local System -> Help Center -> Information ->
eComStation Components -> IBM Convenience Package
I'm sure I saw a "Warp for Dummies" (or similar) sometime mid 1990's
but
there are bound to be a few better books than that floating around :-)
Maybe a hunt on Amazon, ebay and similar will find a few useful
titles... or maybe not having just had a quick look.
I did find a few useful looking titles here
http://www.powells.com/s?kw=os%2F2&x=0&y=0
I cannot recommend any particular titles from experience, maybe someone
else can jump in here, but titles like "Inside OS/2" and "OS/2
Certification Handbook" look potentially useful. Looks like I was wrong
about "Warp for Dummies" I was probably thinking of "OS/2 for
Dummies" -
not that the title is that much different :-)
Hope the above is of help
Pete

One of the last printed books for OS/2 was "Getting Know OS/2 Warp
4",
from IBM
http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Know-OS-Warp-4/dp/0138421471/ref=sr_1_2?
ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207622530&sr=8-2 Basically the manual that IBM
never included.
One of the best books for OS/2 was for Warp 3, OS/2 Warp Unleashed,
by David Moskowitz and others.
