Check to be sure you don't have any icons close to the edge of the
screen. This will cause scroll bar(s) that the boot process wants to
force to the 'bottom of the window' thus 'moving' your icons up.

Also, I would suggest marking all of the icons as 'Locked' so you [or
the system] don't accidentially move them.

The icons on the desktop have taken on a life
of their own.

I have two groups

: one on the left in two columns

: another on the right in a clump

they have taken to crawling down the
screen each time I boot, a few mm at
a time.

I moved them all to the top of the screen,
now they are nearing the bottom again,
particularly the two columns on the left.

Those on the right of the screen funny
enough are less "active".

Cheers,

Click with the Mouse Button #2 (usually the right one) on an object on your
desktop and check or uncheck "Lock in place" at will.

Have a nice day.

This problem, or something sounding very similar, has cropped up a few
times in the ecs ngs.

I cannot remember the details as I do not use the e(x)Workplace so am
not affected by the problem - You do have e(x)Workplace running? If not
stop reading now :-)

What I do remember is that it seemed to be something to do with the
eComCenter behaviour at Shutdown - even though the eComCenter may not
have been running; eCenter is usually used with eworkplace.

Sorry, you will have to hunt through these ngs for more details and a cure.

The fix, that works for me, is to get:

Run that, and select all of the DESKTOP lines (Just the desktop, not
any of it's sub directories), and mark them for deletion. then delete
them. That will remove the INI entries for the desktop. Move the icons
to where you want them (or move one, then move it back, if it is
already where you want it), then reboot. Doing that seems to fix the
problem for me. YMMV.

Hope this helps...
