You should add that it works in combination with RSJ. That is the only

Looking for a backup solution for eCom 1.2R. Neither Backup/2000 nor
BackupDemon or Smartbackup 1.1 seems to work as advertised. I have a DVD
writer and wish to write to either a DVD-R or DVD-RW.

TIA for any help.

BA/2 works with eCS1.2R and will write to UDF formatted DVD+/-RW/RAM; I
think it should be possible to burn the backup to a DVD+/-R but I must
admit that I have never tried.

Of course, BA/2, and most other backup software, has the original HPFS
2Gb file size limitation which can cause problems when backing up large
disks...

Possibly the only software that copes with >2Gb files is star backup

I am still using BackAgain/2000, for most of my backups. What I,
usually, do, is back up to my hard disk, then burn the backup file(s)
to DVD, using DVDDAO. Of course, BA/2K chokes on files larger than 2
GiB (in, or out), so multiple backup sets are used to maintain the
file sizes to something reasonable. If I need to back up a file larger
than 2 GiB, I just burn it to DVD (assuming it is less than the size
that a DVD can hold). The only files, that I have so far, that are
larger, are HDD files for SVista, so I use DFSEE to back them up to
multiple smart compressed files, which can be burned to DVD. DFSEE can
also image partitions, or whole disks, to files that are small enough
to burn to DVD (or, CD, or even diskettes, if you are rich enough to
buy them all, and patient enough to write them).

I have also experimented with ARJ. The command:
ARJ a PHOTOS.ARJ V:\PHOTOS\* -a1 -b2 -2e -r -v1565M -js -jyv
(should all be on one line, if it wraps) backs up my V:\PHOTOS
directory, and all of it's contents, to a file named PHOTOS.ARJ,
splitting it into multiple files af 1536 meg (three fit nicely on a
DVD). The command:
ARJ x V:\BACKUPS\Main\PHOTOS.ARJ V:\PHOTOS\* -vv -y
will restore the backups.

To burn the backup files to CD, or DVD, I use a program that I am
working on, but you can use RSJ, or AudioCDCreator, or just the
commands for MKISOFS, and DVDDAO, or CDRecord.

Hope this helps...

One of my favourite backup programs is dsync
http://www.os2site.com/sw/util/backup/index.html
Small, fast, easy config . I have to do backups quite often. I do it over
my home network and make "mirrors" on two computers. Extract from
readme:

"1. Main Features

 - EA (Extended Attributes) support;
 - Very fast working, low memory consuming;
 - Text mode, can be run detached, can work without PM, i/e from bootable
   diskette;
 - CPU usage saving mode;
 - Can't work with files greater than 4 Gb (may be even greater than 2 Gb);
 - Can copy locked files;
 - Can't work with pathnames longer than 255 chars (in OS/2 max = 260
chars);
 - Uses simple text config file;
 - Tested on FAT, HPFS, HPFS386, JFS, network drives of PEER, Netware, NFS.
   Reaction on other file systems - unknown.
 - Can't write files with long filenames on the FAT disks;
 - Errors - not found yet. :)"

When it comes to files over 2GB it seems like you have to try it out. The
readme is a little vague on that point as you see.
