| No DHCP on fresh 1.2r install |
 |

After nursing an old eCS 1.0 along for many years, I took the plunge
and purchased eCS 1.2R. I was really looking forward to some major
improvements. Can't say as I'm having much fun, though.
I made a fresh 2G partition (primary) on a 250G HD (slave) and
installed 1.2R. At first, I tried just doing the Easy Install. The
second phase bombed with some error about peer networking not being
installed. Upon reboot, I find about half the system is installed.
Ok, not really that important, since I don't use Peer or Samba, so I
opted to uncheck both on the second attempt at the install. I get
through the entire 1.2R install routine the second time, but after the
final reboot, the DHCP client won't work. It just sits there counting
down and times out.
Ok, now what? Fine. I'll do an Advanced Install. Advanced Install has
the same initial problem with Peer. Ok, uncheck them on the second
attempt. Fine. Install goes fine, but again DHCP client doesn't work.
Ok, DL the 2.0 RC3. That might resolve the issue. Fine. Tried the RC3
install. I get pretty much the same results I did with 1.2R, but it
takes longer to get there because the RC3 install moves like a fat man
running up a hill covered in molasses after a bus.
The last time I ever did any eCS install (admittedly some time ago), I
don't remember having to do anything special to get DHCP working. It
just did. This is getting frustrating to say the least. Thankfully, I
haven't tried to install over my eCS 1.0, or I'd be really pissed
right now.
It's not like I'm using any weird NIC, either. 3Com PCI 10/100 card,
using the EL90X.OS2 driver. Working just fine on eCS 1.0.

A stupid thing to do unless you have a backup in any case.

Post your \IBMCOM\PROTOCOL.INI, \IBMCOM\LANTRAN.LOG and \MPTN\BIN\SETUP.CMD

Nothing apparently wrong there. Can you post the lines from your CONFIG.SYS
file which contain \IBMCOM .
You could also do an "iptrace lan0" followed by "ipformat"
while running
"dhcpstrt" manually.

Other things to check as well are files PROTOCOL, SERVICES and DHCPCD.CFG in
\MPTN\ETC - you should be able to compare these with your working setup.
You could always try a static IP setup to see if it is a DHCP problem or
