| How to remove items from Places in evolution/GTK filechooser |
 |
Wed, 09 Jan 2008 19:36:01 GMT |
The GTK file chooser and Evolution list a number of "Places" they
deem
useful so that when opening/saving a file in a GTK(+?) application or
browsing to a directory in evolution these are easy to access. A user
can also add their own places (e.g. most often used directories) to
this list. Good.
My problem is the following: As you can see in the attachment, the list
of items added automatically in Places can be extremely long, cluttering
the list with irrelevant items. As a result, the user added items
("bookmarks" in nautilus) may be invisible and difficult to access --
apparently without the user being able to change this. (If there is a
relevant option in nautilus-file-management-properties I could not find
it.)
Now, I am using Linux instead of Windows so that I can actually change
how much the systems thinks on my behalf. Apparently the trend in GTK
is to remove this possibility and doing more things "automagically".
However, it is impossible for the system to guess what a particular
user wants, so the default should be changeable!
Please create an option to have me hide the useless (for me!) Search,
Recently Used, Desktop (what is that? I though I got rid of Windows?),
Floppy and /etc/fstab entry lines!
If there already is such an option please point me to it!
Many thanks,
Ned.
PS: I am using OpenSuSE 10.3 with all recent updates.
