| "GEDIT" & TAB characters results in invisible text |

I'm running SUSE Linux Enterprise SErver 10 SP1 under VMware v6.02. I have
the VMware tools installed and a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. All
of the latest updates to SUSE Linux are installed.
When I run the GEDIT application to edit a text file, it works fine except
for one minor problem. If I hit the TAB key to indent some text, all text
on that line that follows the TAB character becomes invisible. If I remove
the TAB character, the text becomes visible again. If I open up a file that
has TAB characters already in it, then all of the text following those TAB
characters is invisible, too. Also of note, if I enable text wrapping, any
wrapped text becomes visible on the next line since there's no TAB character
preceeding it on the same line on which it is being displayed.
The problem is 100% reproducible regardless of whether or not I have GEDIT's
auto-highlighting feature enabled for various file types such as .CPP files,
etc....
I do not have a spare system to install SUSE Linux on to test whether or not
this is some sort of artifact related to running within a VM.
Has anybody else encountered this problem?
TIA,
Chuck

I have same exact problem on my machine and I am not running VMware. I
am running Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.1 on a Dell Workstation.
Additionally, the problem is not just limited to GEDIT. It happens when
I edit files in Eclipse too. I believe it has something to do with GUI
libraries. I started seeing this after I updated packages on my
computer. I can't really tell what packages caused it because I updated
a whole bunch of them at the same time, but I am sure that is the
problem. My coworker is running same setup but did not update yet and
he does not have the problem.
Among those updated packages were gnome. I'll see if reverting the
update will help. ( I'm not sure it will be possible to revert though
).

Yes I have seen it. It is an issue with the latest version of cairo that
went out and it is being worked on by Novell.

I had the same problem after the readline update. I reverted back to
readline version 5.1-24.13x86_64 from 5.1-24.19x86_64 and tab is
working correctly again.
