XGL / nVidia / SLI openSUSE issue

XGL / nVidia / SLI openSUSE issue

Howdy all, I haven't used linux for much other then server stuff for the
last 3 or 4 years.

Just getting into using it as a desktop os again, both on my work
laptop and on my machine at home.

On my machine at home I have a sli setup using two 8800GTS's.

After I first install openSUSE 10.3 xwindows gives an error saying
"Fatal Error no screens found" if I use wget and download and install
the new drivers from nvidia all is well.

Then when I try to enable XGL it says the video card isn't in the
database and 3d accell is disabled. After reading the help file I found
out how to tell it to run anyway, which works fine. (Man this is cool
btw)

But now when I go to load the NVIDIA X Server settings app it says "you
do not appear to be using an nvidia x driver please edit your x config
file or just run nvidia-xconfig as root and then restart x server.

Which I have done but it still says that even after a system restart.

Any ideas?

* drahcirt,

I'm not familiar with SLI, but try
sax2 -r m 0=nvidia

This should start the X server config for at least the first card using the
nvidia drivers.

like Uwe stated , what also might be helpful is this

'NVIDIA - openSUSE' (http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA)

'nvidia linux forums'

what other options do you have in your xorg.conf ?? SLI can be tricky
at times. From my experiences the 8800 cards as of yet are not working
from standard install and even so /* cant remember exactly*/ they are
first recognized in the nvidia 169*. Driver Set
