Hi,
I am having the following problem with a new openSuSE 10.3 install.
The machine is an HP XW9400 which is a dual AMD opteron dual core machine,
so 4 cores in total. I have installed openSuSE 10.3 x86_64 and done all the
current updates in YaST.
I have installed the Nvidia X windows driver as detailed here :
http://en.opensuse.org/Nvidia All appered to go ok, though when I started
sax2, it said that it could not configure 3D, however later on when testing
the display the 3D icon is displayed in the middle of the re-sizing arrows.
Once configured I can run startx from the command line and X will start ok,
and I can run programs as normal. However if I try and start a program that
requires 3D enabled (such as supertux or tuxracer), then the screen goes
black and my monitor displays a message indicating that the input is invalid
The machine is however still running correctly and I can ssh into it from
another workstation, and kill X from there (I can also do the CTRL-ALT-
BACKSPACE to kill it too).
Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on here or how to fix
this.
Cheers.

Hi
Sounds like you need to check the refresh rates are configured for the
monitor.

You didn't seem to mention what type of device you were
outputting to. If it is a CRT then as Malcolm said sounds like
you need to check the refresh rate. However if it's an LCD, you
need to check the screen resolution.
System>Configuration>Nvidia X Server Settings
It sounds like the games are picking a default resolution or refresh that
your monitor cannot display. If you are using an LCD and have a CRT handy,
crank one of the games up, plug in the CRT and see if it displays. It's
possible then that you could get into the game and see what it is
defaulting to and maybe set the default to one your LCD can display.
It would give you more information to figure out the
problem in any case. I'm sure each game has a config file that you could
adjust also but you'd have to do some research on that.
