Installing OpenSUSE within a file within Windows?

Installing OpenSUSE within a file within Windows?
Fri, 04 Apr 2008 21:16:02 GMT
Is there any way to install OpenSUSE within a file from within Windows,
a la Ubuntu with Wubi. Unfortunately, InstLux just starts the regular
installer after reboot. It still wants to partition the drive, which is
what I am trying to avoid.

Thanks in advance!

on a virtual cd from alcohol 120%??? never tried this, but the images
mounted are mounted again on reboot (I doubt it to be writable,
though, but?)

jedisb,

There's a Live CD version available at http://software.opensuse.org/
That will allow you to boot off the CD and run your whole Linux session
off the CD, no need to install anything.

Also if you wanna install Linux but fear it will overwrite your Window
install, no worries. This is Linux not Windows.

Having Windows already installed on the disk, boot off the Linux install
CD, it will recognize your windows and suggest a partitioning that will
allow you tio have both systems installed on the disk (provided there's
space for it, of course) and even set it up for dual boot.

I have used Virtual PC 2007 to install both 10.2 and 10.3. That said there
are some issues. Sound will be a pain to keep working. The mouse during
install of 10.3 requires an additional command (I have forgotten it but if
you google enough you will find it.) The virtual additions for linux do
help with most of the post install issues.

I can explain more later but now I got to get my water heater replaced.
