Strange keyboard issue

All of a sudden there are two characters on my keyboard that no longer 
work. It's the less than "<" and bar "|" characters.

They both work fine on TTY1 and oddly enough in the Search field on the 
computer menu in Gnome, but they don't work in ooo, gedit nor in gnome-
terminal.

I'm using the opnSUSE 10.3 with Swedish keyboard layout, generic 105-key 
intl keyboard, but the system language is English.

It all worked just fine until a few days ago when I applied the latest 
patches. Not sure which of the patches broke it as I installed a few at 
that time.

Any ideas?
