Play .swf files in Firefox
Sun, 24 Feb 2008 08:16:02 GMT
I am running SuSE 10.2 with Firefox 2.0.0.11. I am trying to figure out
how I can play Shockwave or .swf files in the browser or a media player.
I've tried MPlayer, Xine, VLC Player and all the rest with no luck.
Does anybody have any ideas???

AFAIK, the only way to do this is with Crossover [Office] from
codeweavers.com. That's what I use. The plugin is basically running

Isn't there a codec that will allow existing players to play .swf
content? When I enter "about:plugins" in my browser window, it lists
the .swf files under Flash Player and says they're enabled. I was
hoping there was a way around installing the Shockwave Player. I have
installed Wine if that's not possible. However, I need a resource to
teach me how to use it to install the Windows version of Shockwave.

Flash yes... Shockwave... I don't think so. At least I'm not aware
of it. The only thing I've had work for me is Crossover.

I'm assuming that there might be some way to make it work with plain
old wine... but that is an assumption. Crossover isn't terribly
