WLAN problems
Fri, 07 Mar 2008 20:26:01 GMT
Hello, there.
I've got an internet connection at home for some days, but I seem to be
too silly to use it correctly. Apart from this personal problem, that I
hope to solve with a little help later on, it seems that I have a WLAN
router on my desktop which doesn't seem to work.
On my tiny eeePC laptop the connection is no problem, but I'd like to
know if someone could name a WLAN router of some brand that he or she
got working with openSuSE 10.3 and what tuning must be done to get it
working.

To put it short: Please tell me what router I should buy and it how I
can get it to work with openSuSE, preferrably version 10.3

Thank a lot in advance, Martin

Hi
I use a Linksys WRT54G are you having trouble configuring the wireless
part of your router? What brand and model?

If you have the wireless card working on your opensuse machine and a
working wireless router it's won't matter what brand...

Hello, there.

The router is a D-Link DI524, and it works with my tine ASUS eeePC
wireless. That doesn't seem to be a problem. But I want my Desktop,
which is working with openSuSE 10.3 (recently updated through the
internet via ethernet cable), to get going wireless.
So I bought a WLAN antenna with a USB connection for the Desktop, but
that antenna never showed any sign of activity with its LED. As the
antenna is some no-name product, I thought someone could tell me, which
WLAN adapter with USB connection was working. Some friend told me I
probably have to change some scripts too, to get it working. Maybe that
would even work with the antenna I got, but if someone has a positive
experience with some model, I am ready to buy a new WLAN antenna --- I
just am afraid that I would not get it to work, if I don't now where to
modify which file.
When booting, the computer showed something like "MARVEL (...) wireless
(...)", so it may be recognizing the antenna after all. But in YaST2 I
got confused by entries like DSL, Modems, Infrared (the latter with an
antenna symbol).
I just don't know how to get the Desktop to recognize the WLAN signal
with its USB connected antenna.

Hi
In Yast it's the 'Network Card' you need to look under.

Have a look here, there is also a link to ndiswrapper which you may
have to use.
