I have installed espeak on 10.3, tried both the standard version and the
one in factory.
They fail with lots of errors (also as root), like this:
espeak 'dont speak'
Expression 'parameters->channelCount <= maxChans' failed in
'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 776
Expression 'ValidateParameters( outputParameters, hostApi,
StreamDirection_Out )' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c',
line: 969
Expression 'parameters->channelCount <= maxChans' failed in
'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 776
Expression 'ValidateParameters( outputParameters, hostApi,
StreamDirection_Out )' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c',
line: 969
Expression 'parameters->channelCount <= maxChans' failed in

Expression 'ValidateParameters( outputParameters, hostApi,

wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)

wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
wave_open_sound > Pa_OpenStream : err=-9996 (Invalid device)
I can get it to create wav files with -w.
Currentyl I have installed
eSpeak text-to-speech: 1.31.11 13.Feb.08
ldd espeak:
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6

libdl.so.2 => /lib64/libdl.so.2 (0x00002b8972522000)
I did add some repositories with the non-OSS DVD players etc, perhaps
these caused the problems?
