drivers for install
Sat, 30 Dec 2006 00:16:30 GMT
Can anyone tell me how to compile a driver to a floppy for installing? I
have searched the net trying to understand this one. I have a highpoint raid
controller and want to create a floppy of the driver to install onto the
raid. I have pulled apart a supplied driver disk and looked at it and played
with it replacing but to no avail. I have searched the net for months
searching without luck. If some one can even point me to some info on the
procedure it would be appreciated. These would be for suse 10.2.

Thanks

Which one from the list?
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/
looking in BIOS+Driver.

I guess that you need source that you can compile for newer versions of
kernel. I downloaded:
  rr3xxx-linux-src-1.1-061013-0958.tar.gz
file and it contains README that seems to be clear what has to be done to
compile it for current kernel.

BTW, this module is already compiled. See
/lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/kernel/drivers/scsi/hptiop.ko
which means, if that is the one that you need, it is already compiled and
all you need is to put it on floppy.

Wish it was that simple. I have the 2310 and the drivers are not in there
for that.
That driver you are talking about is the only card that the drivers are in
the kernel.
10.2 does not have the 2310 driver. I know how to compile it. I have a
machine that I can compile the driver but to set it up on a floppy to be
read by the install has me stumped. I have taken apart one of there disks
and looked at it but it leaves me confused.
Thanks
