Problems with cups printer server on SuSE 10.2

Problems with cups printer server on SuSE 10.2
Sun, 11 Feb 2007 12:24:15 GMT
After upgrading to OpenSuSE 10.2 I have a problem with printing.
In the past on the former SuSE versions I used 1 PC as cups printer server
on a local network. This worked perfect up to now.
I do the following.
I have a Epson stylus C80 conncted to a SuSE PC running 10,2 and KDE.
On the client PC running 10.2, KDE in Yast I choose hardware, printers, Add
network printer. I choose "print using cups networkserver". Then
"only cups
client".
In the input field I type the IP of the cups server. When pressing the
button "Extern IPP testing" I get an error message " could not
connect the
printerserver".
In the past I used the same procedure to configure the cups server and it
always worked. Does anybody know what I do wrong or is it a possible bug in
the cups server?

Hi Bert,

Have you tried the same with disabled firewall? Actually it is the same
effort to disable firewall as to add CUPS to the list of allowed services
using YaST -- Security and Users.
See if that helps.

Hi Rajko,

Yes, the firewall is disabled in Yast because I am behind a router.
But anyway thanks for your feedback.

I just checked how mine works as it is configured with static IP as yours.
This machine is i686 ie. 32 bit, remote is 64 bit 10.2.
Firewall is set to allow CUPS traffic on both machines.
User names are the same on both.

I produced the error only with wrong IP address, or CUPS not running on
remote computer. Can you check logs in /var/log/cups.

Hi Raiko,

I have checked the error log file on the server and the last few lines are
below:
I [12/Feb/2007:16:53:22 +0100] Listening to 127.0.0.1:631 on fd 0...
E [12/Feb/2007:16:53:22 +0100] Unable to open listen socket for address
::1:631 - Address family not supported by protocol.
I [12/Feb/2007:16:53:22 +0100] Listening to /var/run/cups/cups.sock on fd 2...
Can you help me with this error message?

Regards,
