| making a Xerox WC490cx work |

I am trying to get a Xerox WorkCentre 490cx colour printer/fax to work
(as a printer, at least) with openSUSE 10.2. It is not listed in YaST
nor on the OpenPrinting pages, so I chose "WC470cx" as the most
similar
model, which installed the lxm5700m driver. This sort of almost works:
I get a recognizable graphics test page, black and white only and with
some errors in the placement of graphical elements, but it's a start.
Where do I go from here? How would I go about correcting the defects I
see in the printout? Where to look for adding colour support?
Thanks for any hints.

Since Xerox no longer makes or supports this product there is no Linux
driver. There is a Windows XP driver that you may beable to download and
modify for Linux. I understand most Windows PPD files can run on Linux.

I've had very good results using the PPD file from the Windows driver, in
combination with Linux's postscript driver.
Just insert the PPD in yast, should work with all (printing) options.

Sorry I did not write the part about trying to get the 490cx working, that
was Tilman. I suggested he look at the windows ppd for it. I use a Xerox
Phaser 6120. Xerox has a PPD for it on their website.

I've got that driver working on a Windows XP PC, but there isn't any PPD
file. Aren't those only for PostScript printers?
Thanks,
Tilman
