Update mismatch kernel <-> ATI driver

Update mismatch kernel <-> ATI driver
Tue, 29 Jan 2008 20:10:33 GMT
Hi all,

today I noticed that from the ATI source the newest driver is available
(8.45). However, when I choose update in YAST I get a dependency error.

Current installed kernel is 2.6.22_13 but the new driver seems to want
2.6.22_16 when I interpret the filename correctly.

Therefore I looked in the update section for the kernel but could not
see a newer version.

Do I have to wait for the newer kernel or for the ATI source to provide
the proper version for my installation?

Thanks
Klaus

Hi,

I had the same doubts before installing the new flgrx
8.45.4_2.6.22.16_0.1-0.2. However, from what I had seen, the current
kernel-default 2.6.22.13-0.3 has a higher version than the one required
by the fglrx driver. So I told Yast to ignore the dependency, and it
seems to work.

Today a kernel update was due. I installed it and it automatically
selected all dependend kernel modules including the ATI driver 8.45.
After successful install I activated the ATI driver (aticonfig --init)
and alas my native resolution of 1400x1050 was.

Same fo me. And I was running CompiZ Fusion and that was broken after the
fglrx driver upgrade and fglrx update.
Then I installed the old ones withn rpm --nodeps and got xgl back again.
The trouble is to get the old ones. I have them so I can email them if
anyone is having the sam issue.
