Auto Updater stuck in loop.

Auto Updater stuck in loop.
Tue, 25 Mar 2008 04:26:08 GMT
When I powered on my SuSe10.3(x86-64) Dual Core Athlon System six or
seven weeks ago, it had the red updater icon in the system tray.
I double clicked it and had a message [3 mandatory updates about to be
installed]. I clicked [Install] , entered root password , and got
update in process message. Then update sucessful [ok].
After about 10-20 seconds of grey updater Icon, it turned red again,
with the same message. Repeat process - Same results.
I hadn't time to work on it for several weeks and yesterday when I
powered up and I click on the red Icon it says 27 mandatory updates.
Repeat process - Same results.
Apparently the system only thinks it successfully updated the OS.

This is really depressing. Since 9.3 Not one version has updated well
for me. This had been the best (over three months since install
before updater self destruct.)

With previous versions (10,10.1 and 10.2), after the various updater
software versions seemed to blow-up, I was no longer able to load new
software. I havent tried to load new software yet since the looping
red Icon, but I was having troubles with a pcHDTV install a few weeks
before the problem started.

Love Suse, Hate the updater!

Did you add additional repositories to YaST? Which one?
Have you tried to start Yast and Software Management, then you will see that
repositories get refreshed. The problem could be that this does not
succeed. In that case report the problem message(s) here if you can't solve
the problem(s); also report which repository.
Otherwise click on Packet -> All packets -> Update if newer version
available. Here you could have conflicts between packages, often cased by
non-official repositories, try to solve these.
Finally click on Accept and monitor the packages that get downloaded and
installed. The ones from the 10.3 update repository are among them. Most
likely there will be a package that causes an error and does not install.
You have to ignore that error in order to continue with the rest of the
update on the packages. Most likely you will find the solution for that
somewhere in the openSUSE documentation. Otherwise report it here in a new
thread with name of the package in the subject.

It seems to be known problem where help is to use YaST Online Update to
install updates, and than updater applet will work fine again. Some of
patches made a problem.
