internet connection problems

internet connection problems

I have a static IP address. I connect to the network then I have to then 
go to a login page and enter a name and password to get full access to the 
internet.I minimize that page and have to open up a new window to surf the 
net. Well, now that just got linux i can get all the way through to the 
login. But when I go to access the web nothing. I have only had linux for 
a day so go easy on me.
