kcmschell = blank window ?

Hi, 

I'm following an online how-to for setting up samba ('How To Samba With
Suse 10.3 And Windows XP'
(http://www.tweakhound.com/linux/samba/page_1.htm)

at one point, the author says to use kcmshell (alt + F2, kcmshell
'fileshare').  I do this, and click the Administrator mode and all I
get is a windows with a red outlined blank box in the middle.  I still
have OK, Cancel, Help at the bottom, and the informational message at
the top, "Changes in this section require root access" - just the
content is not there.

Is there perhaps a service I need to enable first?

Also, with the firewall, which section do I add services to allow?
External, Demilitarized, Internal?  I'm a home user with a few linux
machines and a few windows virtual machines.  I use things like mysql
and apache2, but I don't want these shared with the outside world.

also, from a terminal, I ran: kcmshell --list, and 'fileshare' did not
appear in the module list... 

still confused. :)

No. I get a window titled "File Sharing - KDE Kontrollmodul" (I'm set
to German)
and telling me:

The service 'File Sharing' provides no library or the Library key is missing
in the .desktop file.

(In English, mind you.) So it fails, but differently from what you describe.
