SCP home.tar.gz file to new desktop results in message "ssh: connect to host xxxx port 22 Connection timed out. Lost connection"

Hello,

I have installed openSuse 10.3 on a new laptop. I tried to copy my /home
settings to the new laptop using URL:

http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11865.html

After I entered the command (non existing step# 12, on page 3):

    scp home.tar.gz root@"new desktop IP-address":

I had to wait a few minutes and then the following message popsup:

ssh: connect to host "new desktop IP-address" port 22 Connection
timed
out. Lost connection.

What should I do to correct that situation. Is it a locked port? My Googling
did not help

can you ssh to the destination? if not

* does sshd run on the destination?
* is the firewall open for ssh?
* is there in between a router that need to forward the ssh port?

Hello, Thanks for the help

It appeared that sshd run on the destination but the firewall was not setup
for my local network configuration with a router connected to the internet
and also ssh was not open on the internal network. So I made 2 changes
1 Put my network card in the internal zone
2 Allowed SSH in the internal zone

and now it works correctly
