cannot use broadband internet connections

hi friends, as a new user of opensuse 10.3, I have some problems
regarding some tiny things..such as how to use broadband internet
connections in my pc....although I used Yast ...network configuration
and all these detect my Lan automatically....still I cannot access
internet via firefox.....pl help me

I suppose you don't use dhcp? (automatic adress)

in this case one have to manually (in YaST) configure gateway and DNS 
(network/services)

in previous versions, the menus for this where directly in network 
card setup

if you *use* dhcp, the dhcp server may not be configured correctly or 
simply not to provide dns values, add them like above

ab25,

not enough information. Define "broadband" please, and how do you want
to connect to it?
Actually IMHO  it isn't worth the effort, just buy a cheap router and connect it
to your DSL modem or your cable modem, then the network setup should work with
the defaults.

Dear friends,

I have broadband internet connection in my house and I am using
opensuse 10.3 with windows xp in my pc. The broadband connection is
working fine with xp but when I am going to use it in opensuse it
doesnot work..The broadband connection has a router and I am using LAN
cards..I am using Yast to configure it and the network connection
automatically detect the ethernet card as etho0 by DHCP...but still I
cannot access the internet using firefox...please help me in this

ab25,

when you connect with XP, which IP address does it get? I assume it is an
192.... address. That's what your opensuse box should receive as well. Use the
Networkmanager applet to check the address.
It may be possible that the card doesn't receive an address from the router.
You'll then see it having an address starting with 169...
You could then try using a fixed address from the address range of the net your
router/DHCP server maintains. Use the router's IP address as the default gateway
and as the DNS server.
