Hello,
I use SuSE 10.1. I am attempting to make a broadband wireless card (
verizon pc5750)
work in linux. I followed instructions found in evdo forums to setup my
system. WHen I
enter the command pppd call script_name, I see messages indicating
connection established, followed by could not determine local IP
address. How do I correct the could not determine the local IP ADDRESS
message ? Any ideas ?

thanks for responding. when I issued the command, eth0 does not show up
with the broadband card inserted. Do I need to install dhcp or other
network services on the latop ? if I insert my pcmcia card and plug the
network cable into my router, the IP address is gained from the router
which is hooked into DSL. I was hoping that purchasing the verizon
evdo card, i can get broadband on the ldaptop

bubbyc,
I'm confused. Are you on a DSL line? That Verizon card looks like a wireless
phone device to me which allows you to dial into your phone provider's network.
With DSL, you could use a WiFi router.

Sorry, i should have been clearer. Currently I use DSL from my laptop
connecting to a router. I purchased the verizon evdo card to stop using
the cable connection to the router.
The verizon pc5750 card is a broadband card and independent of DSL. If
I insert the evdo card, I do not seem to have any network connection.
The ifconfig command shows no eth0. in fact the etc/SuSEconfig/ path
does not contain any directories or files. I believe that is an
indication that I do not have any network services installed. Is that
correct ?
