WLan problem acer extensa/broadcom

WLan problem acer extensa/broadcom
Thu, 10 Apr 2008 20:06:03 GMT
I do not seem to be able to get a connection to my Netgear router using
my Acer Extensa 5220 with Broadcom.
It tries to connect, gets to 28% and then errors Not able to connect.
The light for wifi is not on either, but I am not sure how important
this is.
It works perfect when I connect directly with a cable.
I also have a Vista machine which connects fine and the WPA settings
are all correct.

Any idea?

* JodiSte,

you need the bcm43xx-fwcutter to extract Windows firmware, then you use the
bcm43xx driver. Ndiswrapper shouldn't be necessary.
Somebody indicated that under Linux the WLAN LED is inverted, i.e., it is off
when WLAN is on.

if he have a %, don't this mean the driver is loaded?

anyway acer's broadcom card is a crap, don't connect under 90%!!!

change it for an Intel one (or athereos) and all will be good (4x the
broadcom range)

by the way I have a spare broadcom to sell if you want one :-)))

I was there 1 year ago. same problem, still no solution.
Bradcom does not work out of the box, the sound system lost all its
power and the frustration is still high.
I don't want to get involved in ndiswrapper and sorts, but want a
system that allows me to do my job.
It looks like Mac or Windows are still way ahead for normal comsumers.
what a shame.
